Could / Would or Should ?


Could

It is used as a past form of “can”:

  • Still a century ago, people could not easily go around the world.
It can be used to make a request:

  • Could I take this sit?
It reflects ability:

  • I could not do this homework succesfully.

Would

It describes a hypothetical case

  • If I could, I would pay you but I cannot.
It is used to make a polite request

  • Would you be kind to open the windows?

Should

It is used to provide advices

  • To enhance your level, you should do English courses
